Easter holidays in the Lot : spring returns to the Dordogne Valley

A stroll along the water near Saint-Michel-de-Bannières in the Dordogne valley

With the arrival of spring, the Valley Dordogne is gradually regaining its vibrancy. Terraces are reopening, markets are regaining their vibrancy, and the region's most beautiful villages are rediscovering their gentle way of life.

At AlléeAllée des Noyers, located in Saint-Michel-de-Bannières, we particularly love this time of year. Our guest house is open all year round, and the Easter holidays often mark the return of a wonderful buzz to the villages of the region.

Jean-Pierre and I are always happy to see village squares come alive again, markets revive and the first activities of the season restart.

It is also one of the most pleasant times to discover the region: nature awakens, the landscapes turn green and the major tourist sites remain peaceful.

Spring, our favorite season to explore the region

As soon as the first good days arrive, we too take advantage of this season to go back and explore the region.

the small roads and paths around theAllée des Noyers along electric mountain bikes, but also going on foot along the many marked trails that crisscross the Dordogne.

These walks offer the opportunity to discover or rediscover small, sometimes little-known villages, which nevertheless possess a remarkable built heritage: Romanesque churches, old wash houses, mills or houses of character.

It is also thanks to these getaways that we can share with our guests our favorite spots and some more secluded villages that are worth a visit.

Spring is also one of the most beautiful seasons to enjoy the landscapes of the valley: the meadows turn green, the walnut trees bud and the light is particularly soft.

Among the walks we like to recommend:

  • the Autoire waterfall
  • the panoramas of Loubressac
  • the paths around Martel, Carennac or Meyssac
  • the small country roads ideal for cycling

At this time of year, the landscapes are magnificent and the atmosphere remains peaceful before the summer crowds arrive.

The village of Curemonte, perched in Corrèze in the Dordogne Valley

The must-sees around theAllée des Noyers

Our guest house is ideally located for exploring the most beautiful sites in the north of the Lot and Corrèze regions.

Nearby:

Rocamadour – 30 minutes
A spectacular site, clinging to the cliff.

Padirac Cave – 25 minutes
An impressive visit with its underground river.

Collonges-la-Rouge – 15 minutes
The famous village with red sandstone houses.

Martel – 15 minutes
The town with seven towers, very pleasant to visit in the spring.

Not forgetting Curemonte, Carennac, Loubressac, Autoire, Turenne or Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, classified among the most beautiful villages in France.

In spring, these places are particularly pleasant to discover with still reasonable crowds.

The first spring events

The Easter holidays also mark the return of many activities in the region and the first outings of the season.

Among the activities available during your stay:

  • hunts at the Chadenac Ranch or the Château de Turenne
  • the numerous sporting activities around the Brive-Rocamadour, an event much appreciated by running and hiking enthusiasts.

For a nature outing, the Gramat Animal Park is always a great idea. This park allows you to observe many European species in a protected environment. Recently, a birth has particularly attracted attention: woolly pigs, recognizable by their curly coats.

Another iconic activity in the region is the Haut-Quercy Tourist Railway, often called the Martel steam train. This historic train runs along the cliffside and offers magnificent panoramic views of the Dordogne.

We always pay close attention to all the activities that restart in the spring so that we can best advise our guests during their stay.

A new tourist season is about to begin

Spring also marks the start of the new tourist season in the Dordogne.

In the coming weeks, Jean-Pierre and I will have the pleasure of participating in the early season meetings organised by the tourist officesValley Tourist Office Dordogne and Brive Tourism.

These meetings are always precious moments for us: they allow us to meet the tourism providers in the area, to discover the new activities of the season and to stay informed of upcoming events.

Thanks to these exchanges, we can then share with our guests the latest ideas for visits, outings or experiences to discover during their stay.
